Turquoise Mining, Turquoise Cutting and Polish Class, and Beginning Silversmithing Class

All supplies, Silver and tools provided for the class. The last time I visited this mine and collected turquoise I came home with more than $2,000.00 worth of turquoise. I will furnish transportation from Las Vegas if needed. We will be taken out to one of the most famous turquoise mines for an all day "dig" on Thursday. It is very light work, but you will get dirty! On Friday you will taught how to cut and polish your stones. On Saturday and Sunday we will have a two day Silversmithing Class and make a ring and pendant using some of the turquoise that we find. All stones, silver, supplies and tools furnished. You do not need to bring anything to the class.

You will learn all the basics of Silversmithing and jewelry making. You will learn how to solder Sterling Silver.

You will design a pendant or a ring, make a bezel, solder the ring together including a 3 wire ring band, and learn stone setting and polishing.

My Intermediate Silversmithing Class is true project class. You will make two main projects: a solid band ring, and a hollow form pendant. Each provides many learning possibilities, and even more hands on skills, especially soldering. Both were chosen as projects for this class to teach many different skills from making bezels to soldering different metals to each other. Of course, as with all my classes, emphasis is placed on finding the easiest, fastest, and simplest way to make high quality, sellable pieces that display the high craftsmanship that went into them. You will also be working on at least one simple, smaller ring, using round wire. It is a ring that even though being a continuous solder ring, it is very adjustable. I call them story rings too, if you choose to add symbols to the design.

Learn all the basics of Silversmithing and jewelry making with an emphasis on soldering. After choosing a stone, you will learn to make bezel and then design a ring or pendant around it. I teach how to make a three band ring band and several different kinds of bails for pendants. You will also learn how to set your stone and how to finish and polish your piece. Everyone will also make a simple wire pendant with a faceted stone. All stones, silver, supplies and tools furnished. You do not need to bring anything to the class. A 50% deposit of $150.00 is required to reserve your spot in the class.
